About N.O.R.O.C. (Romanian Grannies)

N.O.R.O.C. (New Opportunities for Romanian Orphaned Children) is a program started by Dr. Fred White and his wife Carolyn of FCPC. Seeing the need in the orphanages of Romania for loving, human contact with the babies, they started a simple program where Romanian grandparents are paid a small amount to come to the orphanages and hold and play with the children. With a minimum of investment the payback from NOROC in the children's improved development has already been enormous.

Brett McMichael was a Presbyterian missionary in Romania and was instrumental in seeing the need. Now First Central's other missionary, Mary Ferris, is headquartered in Tulcea, Romania and works daily with the program. There is also a program coordinator in Romania. Much more about the ministry is contained in Mary Ferris's 2003 report from Tulcea.
