Position: Children’s Ministry Intern

Where: First Central Presbyterian Church, Abilene

Type: Part-Time

Pay: Starting at $10 an hour with a cap of $5200 (tax included).

Preferred Start Date: April 3, 2022. The Intern may begin at the beginning of the summer if they have prior commitments for the spring semester.

Job Description:

  • The Intern must have a heart for children and a desire to see them grow in their faith. The Intern must work well with others, be patient, and be willing to try new things.
  • The Intern must be pursuing a Master’s or a Bachelor’s degree in Ministry, Religion, Education, or a related field.
  • Preference will be given to those with experience in ministry, experience working with children, those who will commit to one full year of service at FCPC, those with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and to those with a Presbyterian background.
  • The Intern will NOT be required to join FCPC.
  • The Intern will teach Sunday morning church school on a regular basis, plan and direct activities for Music and Movement (during the second service sermon), plan and direct games for LOGOS (Sunday night children’s program), lead children’s sermons on a rotating basis, work in the nursery when needed, and help plan and participate in Vacation Bible School, Children’s Sabbath, Advent Fair, and the Christmas Pageant.
  • The Intern must attend some office hours each week (approx. 1-3 hours), Sunday morning church school and the 11 AM worship service (approx. 4 hours), and Sunday night LOGOS (approx. 3 hours-AISD school year only).
  • The Intern must pass a background check, complete CPR and First Aid training, and complete child safety training modules prior to working with children. The Intern will also complete a one-day training in Godly Play, a Montessori-based church school curriculum.
  • The following are the vacation terms for the Children’s Ministry Intern.
  • Intern may miss 3 Sundays, not including Thanksgiving Break, Christmas Break, Spring Break, and Easter based on the Abilene ISD calendar. These MAY be divided into halves.
    • Example: intern has a family gathering on Sunday morning but will be able to attend LOGOS= .5 of Sunday vacation day tally).
  • The Intern will reapply for the position every year. The Intern may not remain in the position longer than 5 months if he or she is no longer in school full-time.
